Brian Poligone, MD Elaine S. Gilmore, MD, PhD

Dr. Gilmore is originally from the Boston area and graduated summa cum laude from Providence College as a double major in biology and chemistry. She attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she earned her MD and PhD degrees. Dr. Gilmore has doctoral and post-doctoral training in electrophysiology and has a special interest in understanding the interplay between nerves and the skin as pertains to chronic itch and pain in dermatology. In 2008, Dr. Gilmore moved to the Rochester area with her family after completing her dermatology residency and fellowship at Yale University in New Haven, CT. Dr. Gilmore joined the University of Rochester as an Assistant Professor of Dermatology where she remained until forming Universal Dermatology, PLLC in 2015.

Dr. Gilmore lives in Fairport, NY with her husband and three young children, who attend Fairport public school. As an avid sports fan, both of the participating and watching varieties, Dr. Gilmore is a supporter of local, collegiate and professional sports (particularly those from New England). It is likely that you will find her on the Fairport Little League or Perinton soccer fields on the weekends for those urgent consults!

Brian Poligone, MD Brian Poligone, MD, PhD

Dr. Poligone has more than a decade of experience caring for patients with skin lymphoma and other dermatologic disease. In 2015 he left his tenure track at the University of Rochester in order to found the Rochester Skin Lymphoma Medical Group (RSLMG). This specialty center provides experienced care for patients with skin lymphoma, with the most advanced therapies available at the center. Dr. Poligone has a laboratory at the Rochester General Hospital Research Institute, where he studies the underlying mechanism of skin cancers. His team at the RSLMG is focused on providing cutting edge diagnostic and treatment options for patients in a setting that is compassionate and patient focused.

Dr. Poligone trained at Yale University with Peter Heald, MD, one of the worlds leaders in the field of cutaneous lymphoma. He performed a post-doctoral fellowship in the laboratory of Sankar Ghosh, Ph.D. in the Department of Immunobiology at Yale. Dr. Poligone completed his internship in Internal Medicine at Stanford University and his MD and PhD at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Poligone has also performed research at the Max Planck Institute in Munich, Germany and the Brain Research Institute in Zurich, Switzerland. He has been invited to speak at more than 100 meetings on both his scientific studies and clinical knowledge in the field of lymphoma and skin cancer. He has been recently funded by the NIH and has been on many NIH review committees. He remains a dedicated academic trying to both provide the highest care and improve the care for future patients through research.

Dr. Poligone is married with three young children, who attend Fairport public school. One of his interests is in travelling to experience new cultures, especially in order to discover new foods or fruits. However his ideal weekend includes playing pick-up basketball with friends, running in the yard with the kids, and baking pizza in the brick oven stove in the backyard.

Brian Poligone, MD Kira Mayo, MD,
Mohs Micrographic Surgery


Dr. Mayo is a board-certified dermatologist and ACGME Fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon, with specialized training and expertise in treating high-risk skin cancer.

Dr. Mayo joined Universal Dermatology in September 2016, upon completing her ACGME procedural dermatology fellowship, with advanced training in melanoma and cutaneous surgery and oncology at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center. Her focus is on Mohs surgery and associated reconstruction, as well as skin exams and excisions of cancerous and non-cancerous skin tumors.


Dr. Mayo received her undergraduate and medical degree at the University of Virginia. She completed in internship in Internal Medicine at Greenwich Hospital before completing her dermatology residency at the University of Rochester, where she served as chief resident.

Dr. Mayo was born and raised in New York City and is married to a native Fairpotarian. She has twin girls, as well as a twin sister. She enjoys anything that involves the outdoors, playing and watching sports and spending time with her family.
